Synopsis
His Monster uses horror as a metaphor for grief and addiction while delivering on its titular creature - the Shōjō from Japanese folklore. Traditionally depicted as a primate-like figure with long red hair, Shōjō are mythological beings who lived along the sea, brewed their own brine wine, and tormented sailors. The film blends psychological horror, creature feature, and emotional realism, where Gabriel Casdorph stars as James, a struggling alcoholic who lost his family to his addiction. When his young daughter mysteriously disappears at sea, he believes a monster is responsible.
Alone, haunted by grief, and repeatedly confronting the bottom of a bottle, James faces mounting deaths around him - and only he seems to understand the threat.

Director: Erich Cannon:
His Monster explores the idea that the true horror is the grips of addiction and grief. It’s my hope to shine a light on addiction and abuse in a story that plays with magical realism.
