The Severed Sun Synopsis
In an isolated religious community ruled by men the Pastor’s daughter, Magpie, murders her abusive husband. In the process, she unleashes a malevolent force – a Beast with shimmering white eyes and a taste for foul men.
Suspicion and paranoia grip the community, and accusations are thrown at Magpie. The Pastor is unable to bring her back into ‘The Truth’, as the Beast’s allure takes its hold over her. When the Beast leaves a trail of gruesome carnage, a brutal witch hunt begins and the community spirals into darkness.
About The Severed Sun
The film is loosely inspired by Puckett's 2018 short The Sermon, and development has taken time, as Puckett wanted to keep creative control instead of handing it over to studio executives. During this time, the project went through several titles, including I Feel Blood, Magpie, The Heretic, and The Severed Sun.
It was developed through the iFeatures program, backed by the BFI, BBC Film, and Creative UK, and the project later received extra funding from the newly launched Heatseeker Media, and it will be the first film completed through that fund.

The film is set to release in limited theaters and VOD from May 16th, 2025.
