Synopsis
Shelby Oaks is a horror film about missing paranormal investigators (the paranormal paranoids), the dark legacy they uncovered, and the far-reaching effects their investigation has as Mia searches for her sister Riley, the lead paranormal investigator, 12 years later.
As Mia uncovers new and disturbing leads related to Riley’s disappearance, she uncovers evidence of a hidden supernatural evil dating all the way back to her and Riley’s childhood.
About Shelby Oaks
This horror movie marks the feature film directorial debut of popular YouTube critic Chris Stuckmann. Originally planned for release last year, the film underwent additional reshoots after NEON decided to invest more funds to amplify its "gore and violence,"
Producer Aaron Koontz:
We were sharing materials with NEON, and they loved what they saw at Fantasia. However, when they reviewed the script, they noticed scenes we hadn’t filmed and moments that were toned down due to budget constraints.
They asked if we wanted to shoot those scenes if given the chance. Since it’s a dark film, we leaned into that vision. NEON gave us the freedom and extra budget to do it right. We were able to crank up the intensity in a pretty gnarly way, and we can’t wait to share it with audiences.
Executive producer Mike Flanagan:
Watching Chris pursue his dreams these past few years has been inspiring. His tenacity and DIY spirit while making Shelby Oaks reminded me of my own early journey. It’s an honor to support his ambitious, unique vision, and I’m excited to see where he goes next.
The film is said to combine elements of documentary, found footage, and traditional narrative storytelling. Chris has cited influences such as Lake Mungo and The Blair Witch Project, with particular inspiration drawn from Lake Mungo
