About Backrooms
Backrooms is based on the viral horror series created by Kane Parsons, which itself originated from a 2019 creepypasta posted on 4chan, where the concept quickly became one of the earliest and most recognizable examples of the internet’s “liminal spaces” aesthetic - typically ordinary locations depicted as unnaturally empty and deeply unsettling.
In Backrooms lore, the endless maze can be entered by “noclipping” out of reality - a term borrowed from video games that refers to passing through solid objects or glitching beyond the boundaries of the world.
Parsons began uploading his found-footage shorts at just 16 years old, and the series has since amassed nearly 100 million views on YouTube, and now 19, Parsons makes his feature directorial debut with the film - becoming the youngest director in A24’s history.
The screenplay is written by Roberto Patino, and the project is produced by James Wan and Michael Clear for Atomic Monster, alongside Chernin Entertainment and 21 Laps Entertainment.
Director and Cast
