Some spirits never forgive.
Synopsis
Smother is a slow-burn supernatural horror film that explores generational trauma, grief, and psychological unraveling within a haunted family home, and follows Michi, a recovering alcoholic who retreats to her estranged father’s isolated countryside house with her young daughter, Hanna, in hopes of rebuilding their fractured relationship after a devastating drunk-driving accident.
But the quiet refuge quickly turns into something far more disturbing.
As Michi settles in, long-buried memories begin to resurface, and an eerie presence tied to her mother - who died by suicide in the house - begins to manifest. Hanna starts sleepwalking, strange drawings appear, and cryptic warnings from neighbors hint that something never truly left.
As the haunting intensifies, Michi becomes convinced her mother’s spirit is stalking them. Plagued by visions and paranoia, she spirals back into addiction, losing her grip on reality. When Hanna nearly wanders into danger during a trance, Michi realizes the horror may not be confined to the house - but rooted deep within herself.
