The Mummy: Ancient Horror Returns in Lee Cronin’s New Film

Lee Cronin's The Mummy Movie

Some things should stay buried.

Synopsis

The Mummy follows a journalist’s young daughter who mysteriously disappears into the desert without a trace. For eight years, her family is left shattered and searching for answers.

When she suddenly returns home, what should be a miraculous reunion quickly turns into something far more disturbing. The girl who comes back is not the same child who vanished — and as terrifying events unfold, the family realizes they may have welcomed something ancient and malevolent into their lives.

Blending psychological horror with supernatural dread, the film promises a chilling reimagining of mummy mythology.

About The Mummy

Written and directed by Lee Cronin, The Mummy is a modern horror reinvention of the classic monster tale. The film is produced by Atomic Monster, Blumhouse Productions, and Doppelgängers.

Cronin has described the project as unlike any previous mummy film, promising to dig “deep into the earth to raise something very ancient and very frightening.” Producers James Wan and Jason Blum have praised Cronin’s bold and contemporary vision, positioning the film as a fresh, terrifying take on ancient horror.

The film is not connected to Universal’s previous Mummy franchise. Instead, it offers a standalone story described as a modern interpretation of something ancient and deeply unsettling.

New Line Cinema will distribute the movie in the United States.
