Synopsis
Thinestra is a darkly comedic body horror film that turns internal struggles into external terrors, that follows Penny, a young woman tormented by body dysmorphia and relentless societal pressures around perfection.
Hoping for a quick fix, Penny impulsively takes a mysterious, Ozempic-esque weight-loss drug, but the fat she sheds manifests as a ravenous doppelgänger, Penelope, who begins to wreak havoc in Penny’s life.
Penny must confront the chaos her doppelgänger causes while grappling with the harsh internal voice that tells her she’s “not enough.”

Thinestra has drawn comparisons to The Substance, offering a fresh take on grotesque, body-focused horror while blending dark comedy and psychological insight.
The film is the feature directorial debut of Nathan Hertz and is written by Avra Fox-Lerner, while producers Alexandra Lubenova and Kelly Parker helped bring the concept to life, emphasizing a story that blends horror with social commentary on appearance, desire, and self-perception.
