Synopsis
Set in Cyprus in 1882, Motherwitch follows Eleni, a grieving painter whose desperate attempt to bring her dead children back to life unleashes an ancient evil instead.
Turning to forbidden rituals in the hope of reversing her unimaginable loss, Eleni accidentally awakens the Kalikantzari, terrifying creatures from Cypriot folklore that begin spreading a devastating curse throughout her village.
As supernatural horrors consume the community, Eleni must confront both her overwhelming grief and the ancient forces she has unleashed before the darkness destroys everyone around her.

About Motherwitch
Motherwitch is a psychological folk horror film written and directed by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Minos Papas.
Drawing heavily from Cypriot mythology, the film centers on the legendary Kalikantzari, mischievous and malevolent creatures deeply rooted in local folklore, where Papas has described the film as a love letter to Cyprus, inspired by its landscapes, traditions, superstitions, and stories passed down through generations.
The screenplay was also shaped by conversations with bereaved parents, healers, artists, and war veterans, exploring how personal pain can be transformed into survival through storytelling and art, and following its sold-out world premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, Motherwitch has continued an extensive international festival run before making its North American premiere at Fantasia International Film Festival.

Motherwitch is directed by Minos Papas and the cast includes Margarita Zachariou, Miltos Yerolemou, Jason Hughes, Danae Katsameni, Athos Antoniou, Dimitri Andreas, Marina Makris, Christina Marouchou and Sifis Katsoulakis.
