Project Shamrock

Jason Eisener has been keeping himself busy with another horror short, and this time The Hobo with a Shotgun director has released Project Shamrock: The Secret Origins of Michael Myers Exposed, a five-minute film that takes a rather unexpected detour into Halloween III: Season of the Witch territory.

The idea is that Michael Myers wasn't simply a troubled little boy who grew up to become the Haddonfield killer, he was actually part of a secret experiment run by the Silver Shamrock Corporation when he was just three years old.

The short is presented as a recently discovered film reel from Halloween 1960, with former factory janitor Dave Brunt being questioned about what went on inside the company, and apparently, there's a lot more to those Halloween masks than we knew.

Eisener has also pulled in the Cult of Thorn, so he's having a go at tying together some of the franchise's more complicated mythology, including Halloween 5 and The Curse of Michael Myers - whether you ever wanted those films connected is another matter...

There's a nice bit of history behind the casting of Brunt, too - he played the original Hobo in Eisener's 2007 fake trailer for Hobo with a Shotgun, which became part of the Grindhouse experience before the feature film came along. Steven Kostanski, meanwhile, supplied a practical-effects prosthetic head, adding another familiar name for fans of Canadian genre cinema.

The film was shot over two days in Dartmouth and Halifax, Nova Scotia, using 16mm and 8mm film, where eisener wrote, directed and edited it, with Andy Appelle behind the camera and Andrew Gordon Macpherson handling music and sound.

Project Shamrock was released on October 22, exactly 44 years after Halloween III: Season of the Witch arrived in cinemas - it's a not-for-profit fan film and isn't an official part of the franchise, but Eisener has put the whole thing up for free on YouTube.
