There are a lot of vampire movies around at the moment, and Sundown is joining that list, where Rebekah McKendry is behind the camera, Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash is executive producing, and the story puts three generations of women in a remote cabin with a captive who turns out to be considerably more dangerous than they expected.
The movie has already had its world premiere at the Locarno Film Festival, and it is now making its way through the festival circuit, and it also has a rather impressive collection of practical effects work behind it.
Three Generations Against Something Very Bad
Sundown centers on three generations of women who reunite at an isolated cabin following the death of a loved one. They aren't there for a peaceful family weekend, either - they have brought a captive with them as part of a revenge mission.
Unfortunately, they discover that their prisoner isn't quite what he appears to be, and things get considerably worse when his family starts closing in on the cabin, waiting for sundown - the movie has been described as a vampire story, with the women finding themselves facing a group of monsters rather than simply dealing with the human revenge story they thought they were involved in.
The three central roles are played by Olwen Fouéré, Camille Sullivan and Summer H. Howell, which is a pretty great horror cast - Fouéré has been building an increasingly impressive horror résumé, with recent appearances in The Watchers and Texas Chainsaw Massacre, as well as Mandy, while Sullivan has appeared in Shelby Oaks and Hunter Hunter, while Howell is probably best known to horror fans for Curse of Chucky and Cult of Chucky.
Howell also has another rather notable horror role coming up - she plays Carrie in Mike Flanagan's upcoming television adaptation of Stephen King's Carrie, so she is having a fairly busy time of it when it comes to getting chased around by things that want to ruin her day.
The supporting cast includes Daniel Bernhardt, David Alpay, Kyle Mac, Elisa Paszt, Junko Bailey, Megan Best and David Ian McKendry, where McKendry directs from a screenplay by Joshua Hull and David Ian McKendry, with the three having previously worked together on Glorious.
Oh, and one of the stranger but more interesting details surrounding Sundown is the involvement of Slash - the Guns N' Roses guitarist is serving as executive producer through his BerserkerGang label - Slash has been increasingly involved with horror projects, and he was also involved with Deathstalker, the Steven Kostanski-directed fantasy horror movie.
The main producing team includes Pasha Patriki, Michael Paszt, Andrew Thomas Hunt, Juliette Hagopian and James Fler, with Raven Banner Entertainment and Hangar 18 Media among the companies involved - Patrick Baxter's Prosthetic FX, Creature Cabin and Steven Kostanski's Action Pants FXalso all worked on the movie, so there is a proper creature-effects team behind whatever eventually comes crawling out of the darkness.
Sundown Has Already Hit the Festival Circuit
Sundown had its world premiere at the 79th Locarno Film Festival on August 13, 2026, where it has since continued making festival appearances, including a screening at the American Cinematheque in Los Angeles on September 26 - there is also a Swiss limited theatrical listing dated August 13, although a wider release date has not been clearly announced by the production or distributors.
