Synopsis
Resident Evil is a survival horror film that reimagines the iconic video game franchise as a relentless, real-time descent into chaos, which follows Bryan, a medical courier who is thrust into a nonstop fight for survival when an ordinary night suddenly collapses into a citywide outbreak of violence and infection.
What begins as a routine job quickly spirals into a nightmare as he finds himself trapped inside a deteriorating urban hellscape where every corridor, street, and shadow conceals something lethal, and as the outbreak spreads, Bryan is forced to push deeper into the chaos, encountering shifting threats, collapsing systems, and the horrifying consequences of a virus that turns the living into something unrecognizable.

About Resident Evil
Resident Evil is a new theatrical adaptation of Capcom’s legendary horror franchise, directed by Zach Cregger (Barbarian, Weapons), and rather than retelling existing game storylines, the film introduces an original narrative set within the established universe, designed to capture the tension, atmosphere, and survival mechanics of the games.
The film is described as a “love letter” to the franchise, focusing on grounded, immersive horror and a single continuous descent into catastrophe.
Zach Cregger has had this to say on the project.
Let me say this: this is not breaking the rules of the games. I am the biggest worshiper of the games, so I’m telling a story that is a love letter to the games and follows the rules of the games. It is obedient to the lore of the games, it’s just a different story. I’m not going to tell Leon’s story, because Leon’s story is told in the games. [Fans] already have that.It’s gonna be not at all like Barbarian and Weapons. It’s going to be a rock ’em, sock ’em… it’s for me to play. And turn my brain off and just make an… Evil Dead 2… get crazy with the camera. Austin Abrams is gonna be my guy. It’s a weird, fun, wild story.This movie follows a person from point A to point B. It’s like a real time journey, where you just go deeper and deeper into the depths of Hell. And it’s really a love letter to the games. Because I love those games.This is a story that I would’ve wanted to write whether I got the IP or not. I just happen to be able to have these Resident Evil people be down. So I get to play in that sandbox. I’m doing it because I think this movie is going to be fucking awesome.
