Synopsis
The Latcher is a slow-burn Australian psychological horror that explores grief, trauma, and the terrifying things that can emerge when pain is left unresolved, and follows Alice, an overworked midwife struggling to rebuild her life after a devastating personal tragedy, where she begins experiencing disturbing waking nightmares involving a mysterious presence lurking.
At first, the terrifying visions appear to be a manifestation of her own grief, but as the presence begins moving closer to her home, Alice starts questioning whether something supernatural has attached itself to her suffering.

About The Latcher
The Latcher explores the idea of “what waits in the silence of grief” and what happens when suffering is ignored for too long, and director James Hunter describes the film as a story about “what clings to us when sorrow is left untended, and what answers when our pain calls out for too long.”
The filmmaker wanted to create something that felt both disturbing and emotionally powerful, explaining: “I wanted to make something that felt both haunting and moving. I wanted to capture a feeling - like when you stare into the dark too long and something terrifying starts staring back.”
The director has described the film as a major personal passion project, saying:
“It has been a huge labour of love by my whole team of dedicated cast and crew on a micro-budget. I’m very proud of everyone’s work on it and very grateful for their investment in getting this film made.”
Inspired by psychological horror classics including Don’t Look Now, Rosemary’s Baby, Hour of the Wolf, and the work of David Lynch, the film takes a dreamlike approach to horror, blending supernatural mystery with a deeply personal character study.

Festival Reception
The Latcher gained attention through the Australian festival circuit, including a selection through the Melbourne International Film Festival Accelerator Lab, before expanding internationally.
The film also screens at Tubi FrightFest, where it joins a lineup celebrating independent genre filmmaking.
