A weekend camping trip goes spectacularly wrong in Deathwoods, an upcoming independent slasher that looks like it has absolutely no interest in letting its characters enjoy a peaceful night around a campfire.
A Camping Trip Turns Into a Bloodbath
The story follows Scott, whose friends Kyle and Jessica arrange a camping weekend to help him recover from a breakup, where they even have a potential romantic match in mind, introducing Scott to Jessica's friend Michelle, but unfortunately, the group's attempt at a little outdoor therapy puts them directly in the territory of the legend.
The Wallace family tragedy from two decades earlier has never completely disappeared from local memory, so what began as rumors surrounding a murder-suicide eventually became stories about a strange, mutated child haunting the woods, and Scott and his friends soon discover that the story may not be a story at all.
The Filmmakers Are Doing More Than One Job
Deathwoods was created by Scott Conner, who serves as writer and executive producer, with Jake Kopronica and Deryk Wehrley directing. Kopronica also co-wrote, produced and acts in the film, while Wehrley handles the special-effects makeup.
The production also has Jaren J. Lewis behind the cinematography, with Lewis previously working on projects including Crust, Watchdog and Deadly Endings, so this is very much an independent horror production where several members of the creative team are wearing multiple hats rather than a giant studio production assembled around one director.
The cast includes Felissa Rose, best known to horror audiences for Sleepaway Camp, alongside L.C. Holt of You're Next and V/H/S 2, and also appearing are KateLynn E. Newberry, Jessa Jupiter Flux, Celeste Blandon, Anthony Dain, Kellan Jackson and MacKenzie Lee, with Miles Dimitri Baker of Ice Nine Kills making his acting debut.
Deathwoods Has Already Reached the Big Screen
Deathwoods has already had its world premiere, screening at Tara Atlanta on August 7, 2026, a Nashville-area theatrical screening is also scheduled for September 4, with the Full Moon Cineplex listing the film with members of the cast and filmmaking team in attendance.
The film has also been listed for a September 1, 2026 streaming release on Screambox.
