A Medical Mission Turns Into a Battle With an Ancient Predator
Beware Boiúna is a 2026 action-horror thriller directed by Mike P. Nelson, the filmmaker behind the Wrong Turn remake, that takes the giant-snake creature feature deep into the Amazon rainforest, where a team of doctors who travel into the rainforest on a medical mission, only to discover that their arrival has disturbed something ancient lurking in the jungle.
That something is Boiúna, a colossal serpent and legendary predator that isn't simply interested in feeding, as the creature has awakened to reclaim its territory, turning the medical mission into a desperate fight for survival, and with the rainforest itself becoming part of the threat, the group must deal with an enormous predator that appears to be intelligent, strategic and capable of hunting them through one of the most hostile environments on Earth.
The film is being positioned as a grounded, gritty alternative to the more comedic giant-snake spectacle arriving around the same time, with the filmmakers saying they put as much emphasis on the characters and location as they do on the monster.

The Amazon Becomes the Hunting Ground
Boiúna is based on a creature from Brazilian mythology, traditionally described as a gigantic black serpent associated with the Amazon, and Beware Boiúna appears to lean into the idea of an ancient, almost legendary force that knows its environment better than the humans invading it - the screenplay comes from Alan B. McElroy, Tony Giglio and Mike P. Nelson, with the story credited to McElroy and Giglio. McElroy previously wrote the original Wrong Turn and also worked with Nelson on the 2021 Wrong Turn reboot.
Beware Boiúna was also actually filmed in the Amazon jungle in Colombia, rather than creating the entire rainforest environment on a soundstage. as production records list filming in Colombia's Amazon region between October 7 and December 6, 2024, which gave the filmmakers access to the real environment that forms the backdrop for the story, but it also created some obvious problems for the production - the cast and crew reportedly required an animal wrangler while filming in the Amazon because of the potentially dangerous wildlife in the area.
The film was previously known under the titles Titan and Boiúna: Legend of the Amazon.
From Wrong Turn to Giant-Snake Horror
Mike P. Nelson directs Beware Boiúna, while the main cast brings together Logan Marshall-Green, Jessica Rothe and Kiana Madeira, with Jackson Bews, Juan Pablo Shuk, Vicente Peña, Mateo Moreno, Nelson Camayo and others also appearing.
Marshall-Green plays Brennan Malloy, while Rothe and Madeira lead the medical-mission ensemble caught in Boiúna's territory - - Rothe previously starred in Happy Death Day and Happy Death Day 2U, while Madeira is known for Netflix's Fear Street trilogy.
The film therefore has a cast that already has plenty of experience with horror, although Beware Boiúna is considerably more focused on creature survival than the supernatural or slasher territory of their previous work.
And in an interview, Jessica Rothe had this to say:
So, what I think is really cool about 'Titan' and the 'Anaconda' reboot coming out at the same time is, I don't know, I haven't read the Anaconda reboot script, but it looks like a freaking blast.A comedy. Jack Black, Paul Rudd, give me more, I want all of it. I want to take a bath in that, but our movie is much more like if 'Sorcerer' met 'Anaconda,' so it's gritty and real. It's about a group of, like, doctors without borders who go down and spend a lot of time, and just happen upon a force they weren't expecting. And Mike. P. Nelson, our director, is just so amazing, another incredible cast on the back of that one, and so, I haven't seen it yet, but all of the things I've seen and even filming it, we went down to the Amazon to shoot it. So I got to go on rainforest tours and drive around on a boat! So who doesn't want to do that?
