Synopsis
Nervous is a psychological horror film about a woman whose attempt to save her failing marriage leads her into a terrifying spiral of obsession, paranoia, and supernatural uncertainty - after Sarah and her husband Sungsoo move to a remote house in the Korean countryside hoping for a fresh start, they discover a mysterious unmarked vinyl record hidden inside their new home, and when Sarah plays the record, nothing happens - at least not at first.
But soon after, she begins losing the ability to hear men’s voices, leaving her increasingly isolated from her husband and the world around her, and as her reality begins to fracture, Sarah becomes drawn toward their mysterious neighbor Eunbyeol, whose unsettling presence creates a dangerous mix of attraction, fear, and obsession.
As the strange effects of the vinyl deepen, Sarah experiences disturbing hallucinations, growing paranoia, and a loss of control over her own mind, and dorced to question whether she is suffering a psychological breakdown or facing something far more sinister, she must uncover the truth before her obsession consumes her completely.
About Nervous
Nervous is a Korean-UK psychological horror film from writer and director Abner Pastoll, the filmmaker behind A Good Woman Is Hard to Find and Road Games, and the film explores themes of isolation, desire, fractured relationships, and the unreliable nature of perception, blending psychological thriller elements with supernatural horror.
The movie reunites Pastoll with actress Sarah Bolger, following their collaboration on the acclaimed thriller A Good Woman Is Hard to Find, which Pastoll previously brought to FrightFest in 2019, and the film was also shot entirely on location in and around Seoul, bringing together Korean landscapes and European psychological horror influences to create an unsettling story about identity, trauma, and hidden darkness.
Director Abner Pastoll describes the film as a story focused on “paranoia, hallucinations, and dangerous desires” as Sarah’s world begins to unravel, questioning whether the horrors she experiences are psychological or something much more sinister.
