We really haven't managed to leave Lizzie Borden alone, have we?
Just as Netflix is getting ready to drop its big Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story series, another Borden-inspired horror movie is on the way - only this one is a much smaller indie production from ITN Distribution called Lizzie Borden: The Hatchet House.
And rather than simply going back to 1892 and retelling the murders again, this one takes the Lizzie Borden legend and drops it into the life of a troubled teenager.
Ellie Finds the Wrong Person to Become Obsessed With
The movie follows Ellie, a gothic teenager who is isolated, angry and dealing with a fractured family, where she's looking for some kind of connection or understanding, but instead of finding a healthy outlet for all that teenage misery, she becomes fascinated with one of America's most infamous murder cases - yep, Lizzie Borden.
According to the official synopsis, Ellie turns to the legend of the axe murderer as she tries to make sense of her own situation, and considering this is a horror movie, I'm guessing the fascination with Lizzie isn't going to remain a harmless historical obsession for very long.
Amy Gibbons leads the cast as Ellie, with Anna Mirren, Isla Bell and Niamh Handley-Vaughan also starring, while behind the camera is Darren Goodwin directs the movie.
Lizzie Borden: The Hatchet House is coming soon from ITN Distribution - no release date has been announced yet.
