3 horror movies to watch in May - 'Tarot' 'The Strangers: Chapter 1' and 'In A Violent Nature'

Well, April wasn't bad month for horror movies. Sting was ok, First Omen was pretty good and Abigail was really good, in my opinion.

Let's see what May will bring, and here are 3 I am looking forward to.

The Strangers: Chapter 1

I don't know about you, but what really scares me is the thought that something I am watching in a movie could actually happen for real. The Strangers was a movie that stood out from typical horror flicks by showing some unsettling truths about the world. It came out in 2008 and ten years later in 2018, a sequel called The Strangers: Prey at Night was released. Critics weren't all that impressed, though, saying it didn't quite live up to the first one.

Now, after six years, Lionsgate is bringing the franchise back to life. They're going back to the start of the story and expanding the world beyond what we saw in the first two films. They're planning three new movies called Chapters 1, 2, and 3, and the first chapter is set to release on 17th May. [The Strangers: Chapter 1 on IMDB].

In A Violent Nature

In a Violent Nature, written and directed by Chris Nash is going to give gives a fresh twist to the slasher genre. When a group of teenagers finds a locket in a collapsed tower during their vacation, they accidentally bring back Johnny's vengeful spirit. Johnny then hunts them down one by one, seeking the locket and revenge for their actions.

The film premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival and critics liked its simple style, lack of music, and slow build-up, but it's the fact that most of the story is told from the killers perspective that is intriguing. In a Violent Nature is releasing on on May 31st and later on Shudder. [In A Violent Nature on IMDB]

Tarot

Tarot is a horror movie written and directed by Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg, marking their debut as feature film directors. The story, inspired by Nicholas Adams' 1992 novel Horrorscope, features Harriet Slater, Avantika Vandanapu, and Jacob Batalon

It follows a group of college friends who stumble upon ancient tarot cards in a remote cabin. As they explore their fortunes using the cards, they become unaware of the deadly consequences they may face. Can these teenagers survive the night and uncover the truth behind the tarot readings before it's too late? The film is set to release on May 3rd.  [Tarot on IMDB]
